“Light in the Dark” 38,5x48,5cm. 2022
paper, gouache, pastel, charcoal, pencils
This painting speaks of trust, pain, and brotherhood in the midst of war. A wounded Ukrainian soldier, his eyes bandaged, is led through darkness by his comrades. His world — both literally and symbolically — is blind, yet filled with the quiet light of humanity, care, and solidarity.
There is no romanticized heroism here. Only exhaustion, real suffering, and yet — immense inner strength. This is a portrait of a fighter who now sees through the eyes of others, carried by their presence and support. The piece captures a deep empathy that can only be born in the space between life and death.
