“Moisei” 69,5x77,5cm. 2023

paper, gouache, pastel, charcoal, pencils

This portrait tells a true story. It depicts a Ukrainian soldier named Moisei, seated in full combat gear, a violin in his hands and a rifle by his side. The contrast is striking - and honest. In the midst of war, alongside brutality, there is still room for music, for beauty, for human dignity.

His posture is calm, focused. He plays as if the noise of war could be stilled, even briefly, by the sound of strings. And yet, he carries something more than a weapon. He carries a silence that heals.
